Private Equity and Venture Capital Operations

Firms need sufficient equity in the business to facilitate the growth an expansion. Companies which are over borrowed or undercapitalized are often unable to buffer downturns or take advantage of new opportunities. Competitiveness often means staying one step ahead of the competition, either by improving efficiency or expanding, possibly even into new products and services. Caribbean Development Capital Ltd (DEVCAP) is an institutional investor which makes "private equity" and "venture capital" investments in private companies in the Eastern and Southern Caribbean. DEVCAP makes investments only in Small and Medium-sized investments, mainly in family-oriented companies. Investments range from US$50,000 to US$1.0 Million and are structured as ordinary shares, convertible bonds and mezzanine financing instruments. We invest in a variety of sectors including tourism, Agro-industry, Professional and Commercial Services, Energy and manufacturing.

We have been successful in achieving our mission due to:

  • Experience, knowledge of the key markets and range of contacts in the Caribbean and the ability to arrange co-financing with various financial institutions
  • Portfolio management skills and access to strong middle/back office capabilities
  • A proven ability to organise and co-ordinate the work of specialists and providers of technical assistance
  • Connections with its “managed enterprises” which are essentially “Development Funds” that make seed capital investments, facilitate enterprise development, support Small Enterprises and carry out business development activities
